Just Go West
Athens To Lefkada: Make it Fun
You have landed in Athens. Sure, there are a few days worth of stuff to see in the historic city, but then it's time to go some where real! Use any search engine like kayak and expedia to find a rental car. Automatics are very available throughout Greece. You start going beyond a five seater and the price does increase. Keep in mind that a European car may have five seats, but it doesn't necessarily imply a lot of luggage space! Anticipate 4 hrs to get from Athens to Lefkada capital city. The highway is very comfortable and efficient. There are plenty of gas stations with all the right foods to grab. The roadway is really scenic. By the way, you do NOT need cash for the tolls, which are hilariously often but cheap, along the highway.
Tips:
Consider stopping in Corinth to the see the Corinthian Canal
Consider stopping in Patra before crossing the sea

Preveza to Lefkatha: 30 minutes
Preveza international Airport is just north of Lefkatha at about an 30 minutes away. You will be swimming and eating in no time! Again, search kayak and expedia for a convenient car rental!
